Setting my timer, clearing my head, for five minutes of free writing
without worrying about getting it right.
This week's prompt chosen by Lisa-Jo: Beyond
And, go...
Beyond the tattered, worn cover are markings of pens long since ran out.
Markings that give life to this well-beaten and worn Bible.
Markings that once guided the thoughts and prayers of family close.
But to me...they are more than markings.
more than words,
more than lines on a page.
It goes beyond that.
They are a legacy.
Legacy of the faith of a grandpa I knew
and a grandma I will one day meet in heaven.
Legacy of faith gone before me
and faith I want to continue.
A legacy I hope to one day pass down.
Beyond the tattered, worn cover are...
STOP.

Nicole Marie
Beautiful post. I love that you have that legacy, the bible with others writing and thoughts. Amazing. Hopefully I can pass mine onto my kiddos someday. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! Thank you for your kind words. It is definitely something dear to the heart. I know God will honor your heart in Him. Blessings to you and your family!!

Beautiful thoughts, and what a wonderful legacy. Convenient though a Kindle (or other electronic Bible) may be, they can never create this kind of heritage, can they?
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
Thank you. It is definitely powerful reading the notes penned in the margins. You are absolutely right, the legacy of the pages of a Bible gone through life can't be beat.

This is beautiful. I bet you handle that Bible with reverence and awe and thankfulness for your heritage.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like the well-loved, well-lived gift of God's Word.
Thanks for sharing, today!
Thank You. Yes, almost scared to pick it up sometimes in that it is so worn. My grandpa's faith is such a testimony to me that I'll hold dear forever.

This is just beautiful. It made me wonder what others will think of my marked up and tattered Bible when I'm long gone. Those notes scribbled are beyond explanation as they are promptings from God himself. Love this!
ReplyDeleteThank you Alene! I love that, "those notes....are promptings from God Himself." Amazing how He works in and through our lives!
